Clinical breast exams (CBE) are done by a trained medical professional and involves looking at and feeling the breast and underarm area for any abnormalities. This is a simple step to take in your over all breast health. CBE are recommended for women 20 and over.
CBE’s combined with monthly self exams are simple ways to know your body and be aware of any changes. In addition, it is important to know your family health history, know which screening tests are available and appropriate for you and at what age, be familiar with what is normal for you and see your health care provider if you notice any of the following: lump or thickening, swelling, warmth, redness, or a change in the size or shape of the breast, dimpling of the skin, nipple discharge, or pain in one spot that does not go away. Always maintain a healthy weight, exercise, limit alcohol intake, and stop smoking.
CIFP participates in the Care for Yourself Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (BCCEDP). Inset link http://www.idph.state.ia.us/careforyourself
